15 Poses for Guys That Are NOT Cheesy

Let’s be real—posing for photos can feel awkward, especially for guys who don’t want to look stiff, forced, or, worse… cheesy. The good news? You don’t have to lean on cringey prom-style stances or over-the-top model poses to get great shots. Whether you're booking senior photos, professional headshots, or branding images, natural, confident posing makes all the difference.

Here are 15 poses for guys that look relaxed, effortless, and actually cool.

1. The Casual Walk

Walk naturally toward the camera (or away) while looking off to the side. This keeps your body moving so you don’t feel like a statue.

2. Hands in Pockets (Relaxed, Not Stuffed)

Slide your hands casually into your front pockets or thumbs hooked on the outside. This looks natural and gives off a confident, laid-back vibe.

3. Jacket Over the Shoulder

Holding your jacket or hoodie slung over one shoulder adds movement and personality to your shot. Bonus: it makes your posture look great without effort.

4. The Lean

Find a wall, fence, or doorway and lean against it. One foot crossed over the other or a slight slouch makes it feel even more effortless.

5. Looking Off to the Side

Instead of staring straight into the camera, turn slightly and glance off to the side. It creates a candid, natural feel rather than a forced “say cheese” look.

6. Hands Through Hair

If you have longer hair, running a hand through it creates an easy-going, effortless shot. Even for short hair, it gives a relaxed, thoughtful feel.

7. Adjusting a Watch or Cuff

If you’re wearing a watch, jacket, or button-down shirt, adjusting the cuff or rolling up sleeves makes for a sharp, candid-looking pose.

8. The One-Knee Rest

Find a step, ledge, or bench to rest one foot on while keeping the other planted. It adds dimension and movement to your photo without feeling stiff.

9. Sitting, Elbows on Knees

A simple seated pose with elbows resting on your knees and hands clasped gives off a strong, confident look without looking forced.

10. The Over-the-Shoulder Look

For a little attitude, turn slightly away from the camera and glance back over your shoulder. It’s cool without trying too hard.

11. Crossed Arms (But Not Too Tight!)

A slight arm cross works great for business portraits or personal branding. Just keep it relaxed—tight arms can make you look defensive.

12. The "Fixing Your Collar" Move

Adjusting a hoodie, button-up, or even just pulling your T-shirt collar slightly gives an easy, in-the-moment effect.

13. Sitting Back with One Arm Resting

For seated shots, leaning back on one arm gives off a cool, casual feel instead of sitting stiffly upright.

14. Walking & Looking Down

A slight downward glance while walking creates a thoughtful, cinematic feel. Perfect for lifestyle or urban shoots.

15. The Laughing Shot

Nothing beats a genuine laugh. Think of something funny, have a conversation with your photographer, and let natural expressions happen. These always end up being favorites!

Final Thoughts

The key to looking natural in photos? Movement, confidence, and staying relaxed. Forget the over-posed, forced smiles and go for poses that actually feel like you. Whether you need professional shots or just want to upgrade your Instagram game, these poses will have you looking sharp—without a hint of cheese.
