There’s nothing quite like the first days with a new baby. I had the privilege of documenting this sweet family not once, but twice—their in-hospital session at Forsyth Medical Center and then their in-home newborn session a week later.
Meeting Baby Sister at the Hospital
The hospital session was extra special. Just a day after she was born, big brother met his baby sister for the very first time. His smile said it all—pure joy and excitement. These first introductions are some of the most meaningful moments a family will ever experience, and I love being able to capture that mix of tenderness and wonder. The photos of mom and dad soaking in those first snuggles, along with big brother proudly holding her, are memories they’ll treasure forever.
An In-Home Newborn Session
A week later, I joined them again at home for their newborn session. This time, everyone was a little more settled in, and the session was filled with cozy, candid moments. Big brother was so sweet and gentle with his baby sister—he truly melted my heart with how protective and loving he was.
And of course, I can’t forget Oliver, the family dog! He proudly wore his “Big Brother” bandana and jumped right in for photos, proving that furry siblings are just as much a part of the family story. Pets always bring so much personality to a session, and Oliver was no exception.
Why I Love Documenting Both
Doing both a hospital session and an in-home newborn session allows families to capture two very different sides of welcoming a baby. The hospital session is raw, emotional, and filled with those firsts you’ll never get back. The in-home session, on the other hand, reflects the comfort of being settled together as a family, with plenty of time to capture siblings, pets, and all the little details.
I’m so grateful I got to help this family preserve both experiences—the moment big brother met his sister and the sweet, calm days that followed once they were home.
