Every photo tells a story—but the edit is what helps bring that story to life. When I photograph families, I want the final images to feel polished, warm, and true to the moment. That’s why editing is such an important part of my process.
This sweet newborn family session in Advance, NC is a great example of how a few edits can make a big difference.
In the original image, you can see this beautiful family snuggled together on the bed, soaking in the joy of their new baby girl. The lighting from the window was strong, which left the photo looking a little darker and uneven than I wanted.
With editing, I was able to brighten the image, even out the tones, and bring out the warmth of the moment. The family’s smiles pop more, the baby’s soft details are clearer, and the overall photo feels lighter and more joyful—just like this season of life.
Editing allows me to:
Balance natural light for softer, cleaner images
Highlight the details—like a newborn’s tiny bow or a sibling’s grin
Create consistency across the gallery so every photo looks its best
These little changes transform a snapshot into a timeless portrait families can treasure forever. I love being able to give my clients a gallery where every image feels special and worthy of a frame.
