Let’s talk about what really goes on behind the scenes of a senior session—because sometimes, things don’t go exactly as planned. And that’s okay.
During this senior session in downtown Winston-Salem, we quickly realized something was missing: the tassel. Yep, one of the most iconic parts of a graduation look was nowhere to be found when we started the session.
But instead of panicking, we came up with a plan.
Right from the beginning, I let the family know I would do everything I could in editing to add the tassel back in for the final images. And just like that—Dad swooped in to save the day! While we wrapped up the session, he headed home to grab the second tassel. That quick thinking gave me a solid reference photo to work from, and it made all the difference.
With that tassel in hand (literally), I was able to digitally add it back into the final portraits. I matched the lighting, angles, and shadows to make it blend seamlessly—just like it was there all along.
This kind of edit is subtle, but it matters. That tassel is more than just an accessory—it’s a symbol of years of hard work, growth, and the milestone of graduation. I wanted to make sure it was part of these portraits not just visually, but emotionally too.
Photography is about more than clicking the shutter—it’s about delivering a finished product that tells the full story. And sometimes, that story includes a little teamwork, some Photoshop finesse, and a family that was prepared to pivot.
