There’s something so magical about spring—the soft blooms, the gentle light, and the fresh feeling that everything is coming back to life. But let’s be real—Mother Nature doesn’t always serve up the perfect backdrop during your scheduled session time. That’s where the magic of editing comes in.
Today, I wanted to share one of my favorite parts of what I do as a photographer—the transformation that happens after the click of the shutter. 📸
These two sweet girls had their mini session right in the middle of the tulip fields in Kernersville, NC. It was a gorgeous location with rows of colorful tulips, but the sky that evening? Totally flat and overcast. Not bad, but definitely not the dreamy spring glow I had in mind when I envisioned this session.
That’s where a little post-processing love came in.
In the original image, you can see how the lighting was soft but a bit dull. The colors in the tulips were vibrant in real life, but the sky was blown out, and the background lacked depth. Still beautiful—but not quite the story I wanted to tell.
With some creative editing, I enhanced the natural beauty of the scene. I added a soft sunset glow and dreamy pastel sky to give the photo a warm, storybook quality. The tulips pop even more with a bit of color boosting, and the light now gently wraps around the girls, making them the radiant focus they truly are.
The result? An image that feels like spring—alive, joyful, and full of color.
As a photographer, my goal isn’t just to take a picture—it’s to capture a feeling, a moment, and sometimes that means helping Mother Nature out just a little bit. 🌤️
