Behind the Lens: The Funniest Photography Bloopers

Photography is all about capturing moments—big and small, planned and unexpected. But let’s be real, some of the best moments happen when things don’t go exactly as planned! As a photographer, I always aim to deliver the most beautiful, polished images to my clients, but in the process of culling (sorting through all the images to find the best ones), I come across some absolute gems—the bloopers!

Sometimes, I don’t even realize what’s happened in the moment. We’re too busy laughing, posing, and making memories. But once I sit down to go through the images, that’s when I see the real magic—those unintentional, hilarious, perfectly imperfect moments that make every session unique.

Let’s talk about some of my favorite types of bloopers!

1. Animals – The Unpredictable Stars 🐾

Including pets in a session? Expect the unexpected. Even with treats, squeaky toys, and all the patience in the world, they have their own agenda. Whether it's a perfectly timed lick, an accidental photobomb, or a sudden case of the zoomies, pets bring personality to every session—and usually a few bloopers along the way!

2. The Wind Has Other Plans 💨

Wind can be both a blessing and a challenge. A little breeze? Perfect for those dreamy, windswept hair moments. A sudden gust? Cue the wild hair flips, flying dresses, and surprised expressions. Some sessions involve dodging the wind in between shots, but when the wind decides to steal the show, the outtakes are always good for a laugh.

3. Kids Keeping It Real 😆

Photographing kids is an adventure in itself! While we always aim for sweet smiles, sometimes kids have other plans. The "I'm not having it" moments, the grumpy faces, the mid-tantrum expressions—those are the ones parents often remember most. Especially with Santa sessions, sometimes the most priceless (and hilarious) memories come from the unexpected reactions.

4. The Silly Smiles in Between 😜

Trying to get a serious, picture-perfect smile? That’s hard work—especially when you’re in a playful mood! Sometimes, the funniest images come from the in-between moments—halfway through a giggle, mid-sentence, or when someone is trying to hold in laughter. And honestly? Those are some of my favorites.

5. Twirling, Dancing, and the Chaos of Movement 💃

Movement-based shots are always an adventure. Whether it's a kid twirling in a dress or a couple dancing during a session, 95% of those shots are bloopers—backs turned, hair in the face, unexpected expressions. But when you get that one perfect shot of pure joy? It makes every blooper worth it!

6. And… Did I Mention Animals Again? 😂

Seriously, I love photographing people with their dogs. But let’s be real—dogs have their own agenda, and they aren’t afraid to show it! Whether they decide to jump, turn away, or just stare at me like, "What do you want from me?", they definitely keep things interesting.

While most of these bloopers don’t make the final gallery, I can’t help but appreciate them. They’re a reminder that photography isn’t just about perfect poses—it’s about real moments, real personalities, and real memories. Sometimes, the best pictures aren’t the ones we planned for; they’re the ones that just happen.
