Some photo sessions feel extra special — not because of the location or the light (though we had both!), but because of the history behind the people in front of the camera. This family is one of those for me. Our connection goes way back, and every time I get to photograph them it reminds me how fast time moves and how important it is to pause and capture these seasons.
I first met this sweet family years ago when I was photographing for a neighborhood magazine. Then our boys became close friends, and our lives continued to cross paths. I even had the honor of photographing at the preschool their mom worked at. And now here we are… years later… still documenting their story. That’s the greatest gift photography gives — not just pictures, but relationships and memories woven together over time.
This fall mini session in Mocksville, NC felt like a full-circle moment. Two of their three kids are now out of the house and off to college, and life is getting busier for everyone. College schedules, new routines, new chapters — and yet they still made the time to come together for updated family photos. That means everything.
The evening couldn’t have been more perfect. The golden fall light peeked through the trees behind the old barn, the colors were warm and rich, and their cozy outfits fit the season beautifully. They laughed, teased, hugged, and gave me every genuine smile a photographer could hope for. More than anything — their photos captured connection, comfort, and joy.
These are the moments that matter… the ones right in the middle of life’s changes. Kids growing up. Young adults stepping into independence. Parents savoring every season — even the busy, bittersweet ones. A quick mini session may only last a few minutes, but the memories inside the photos will last forever.
To this family — thank you for trusting me through all these years, through every stage, and through every chapter. Photographing you never gets old, and I’m already looking forward to the next time we get to do it all over again.
If you’d love to get on the calendar for a family session in Mocksville, Clemmons, or Winston-Salem, I’d love to photograph your crew too:
