Getting to know the Ring's

It was a chilly winter day, but that didn’t stop Lennie and Cathy from stepping out for their photo session. I love that they embraced the cold because the results were absolutely beautiful!

I took the opportunity to ask them a few questions about their marriage, life, and the things they love to do. Here’s what they shared with me:

Most people that are around us think we’ve been married forever as we are so in sync with each other when in fact we are still newlyweds!  Well, not newlyweds but only married to each other for 16 years.  Our marriage is a second for both of us.

After about an 18 month courtship, we got married in front of the Presidential Fountain at Harry Truman’s Little White House in Key West at high noon on a June day.   It’s hot in June in Key West!

We lived in Honduras for Lennie’s job with Hanes for 2 years.  As difficult as that was, we give lots of credit for the success of our marriage to that adventure.  We were away from family, friends and life as we knew it in the States.  We only had each other to lean on for support and it truly laid a foundation of caring, understanding and supporting each other that remains the foundation of our strong commitment to each other today.   We say please, we say thank you and we say, I love you every day.  This along with having a sense of adventure and making memories along the way is good advice for all couples.

Living in Kinderton Village in Davie Country is truly a blessing.  We have wonderful neighbors who have become family.  We love cooking together and sharing with our friends.

Traveling is a passion for both of us.  Experiencing places like Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan in Italy was the trip of a lifetime. Seeing Pope Benedict on July 4th was the icing on the cake.  We’ve been fortune to go to the Netherlands too.  After we bought our home in Kinderton, Lennie’s consulting  work took us to Norfolk, Va and then to Southern California for a year stint in each place.  Again, only having each other to lean on.  We love a good adventure!

We love to cruise and our favorite was certainly Alaska.  We loved it so much that we went twice about 8 years apart.  We’ve road tripped as far as Montana to the west and to Bar Harbour, Maine to thevnorth.  Visiting the Mighty 5 National Parks was amazing. A 2 week cruise is planned soon and after we get home we are driving to Oklahoma City to visit Cathy’s brother.

Now that both of us are retired our days are spent planning the next adventure while deciding what we are going to cook!  Cathy loves  to sew and quilt and she’s a contributing writer for Bermuda Run Stroll Magazine.  She’s rarely met a craft she didn’t like.  Lennie develops spice rubs, reads nonstop, works on our yard and is our travel planner.  We are both involved in the Town of Bermuda Run and Davie County.

Life is good for us in Davie County.  When the weather is nice you will find us on our front porch most evenings.  We love having neighbors drop by for a visit!
