Fall in North Carolina is truly magical. The leaves burst into shades of gold, orange, and red, making it the perfect time of year for family photos, senior portraits, or even just a quick mini session. Over the years, I’ve come to love a few spots that showcase the beauty of the season in unique ways. Today, I want to share my three favorite fall photography locations and what makes each one so special.
This private location is one of my absolute favorites because it truly has it all. You’ll find a gravel drive and winding path, open fields with tall grass, a sparkling pond, and rustic old barns and buildings that add character and charm to every photo.
The variety here means no two sessions ever look the same, even when photographed in the same season. In the fall, the trees surrounding the property put on a show with their rich colors, giving families the perfect backdrop for timeless portraits. Best of all, this location works beautifully all year long, but fall might just be its most breathtaking season.
If you love the idea of a crisp fall walk surrounded by trees, the Clemmons Greenway is a wonderful choice. The paved path winds through the woods and gives easy access to several beautiful spots. You’ll find wooden and metal bridgesand open views of the lake surrounded by foliage, which photograph especially well when the leaves are at their peak.
This location shines in late October through early November, when the trees surrounding the path create a canopy of color. It’s perfect for families with kids since the paved path makes it easy to walk and move around quickly, while still offering plenty of variety for photos.
There’s something peaceful and serene about Salem Lake in the fall. The path winds through the woods and follows the water’s edge, giving us stunning backdrops with both towering trees and the sparkle of the lake behind you.
The beginning of November is the best time for this location, when the leaves around the lake are at their peak color. Whether you’re looking for a cozy family portrait or a standout senior photo, Salem Lake delivers a perfect mix of nature and simplicity.
No matter which of these fall locations you choose, you’re guaranteed a backdrop filled with warm colors and natural beauty. Each spot has its own personality, and I love helping families and seniors find the right fit for their photos. Fall doesn’t last long, so if you’ve been thinking about scheduling a session, now is the time to get your date on the calendar!
