Some sessions come together easily… and others remind me that photography is as much about flexibility as it is about timing.

This extended family session at WinMock at Kinderton in Bermuda Run, NC was one we had been planning for months. Eleven family members, multiple households, school schedules, work schedules, and travel — it was no small task to get everyone on the calendar. So when the forecast suddenly switched to rain the day before, we went into full “What do we do?” mode.

After texts, emails, back-and-forth messages, and lots of weighing the options, we ultimately decided: we’re going for it.
Because the truth is, rescheduling an extended family session is often harder than shooting it — especially when everyone is already together and excited.

And I’m so glad we did.

Even though the weather wasn’t exactly what we envisioned, WinMock still delivered its timeless charm — the white barn, the red doors, the hanging lights, the beautiful paths, and of course, the willow tree that feels like something out of a movie.

This family showed up with the best attitude, umbrellas in hand, willing to trust the process. We worked quickly between showers, used the barn overhangs and covered spots, and even snuck inside for a few cozy indoor portraits that turned out beautifully.

By the end, we captured everything they hoped for:
✔️ The whole family together
✔️ Grandparents with their grandkids
✔️ Sibling sets
✔️ Individual families
✔️ The kids together (umbrellas and all!)
✔️ And the classic WinMock backdrop that makes this place so special

What I love most about this session is that it tells the real story: that memories don’t have to be made on a perfect-weather day.
Sometimes the imperfect days turn into the most meaningful ones — because the family showed up, stuck together, and trusted the process.

And honestly? That’s the heart of family photography.
