Watching babies grow during their first year is one of the greatest gifts of being a photographer. Getting to photograph these sweet twin boys again around their 10-month milestone was especially meaningful for me because I have known them since the very beginning — their newborn session.
Their mom also happens to be one of my best friends, which makes documenting these moments even more special.
Watching Twins Grow Through Their First Year
One of my favorite things about photographing milestone sessions is seeing how much babies change in just a few short months. When I photographed these boys as newborns, they were tiny, sleepy, and curled up together.
Now at around ten months old, their personalities are starting to shine.
One twin was especially curious about everything around him, while the other was full of smiles and happy expressions throughout the session. It is always fascinating to watch twins interact with the world — and with each other — as they grow.
A Mini Greenhouse Session in Mocksville NC
We photographed this milestone session at my miniature greenhouse setup here in Mocksville, North Carolina. This little structure has quickly become one of my favorite spots for baby milestone sessions.
The soft white wood, greenery, and simple natural textures create such a calm and timeless setting that keeps the focus on the baby. It also gives little ones plenty to explore with plants, textures, and space to sit and play.
The greenhouse look works beautifully year-round and photographs especially well for milestone sessions around 6–12 months.
Their First Little Shoes
One of my favorite moments during this session was seeing the boys wear their tiny white sneakers for one of the first times.
If you've ever dressed a baby in shoes before they are used to them, you know exactly what happens next…
They become completely fascinated by their feet.
Both boys spent time studying their shoes, grabbing at them, and kicking their feet while sitting in the greenhouse. It made for some incredibly sweet and natural moments that truly capture this stage of babyhood.
Those tiny details — little shoes, curious hands, and big baby smiles — are the kinds of memories parents love looking back on years later.
A Special Guest at the Session
Another thing that made this session extra special was that their grandmother came along.
I always love when family members join sessions. Even if they are not planning to be in photos, having grandparents there adds another layer of meaning to the experience. It also creates beautiful memories beyond just the images themselves.
Watching grandma enjoy the boys during the session was such a sweet reminder that photographs often become family heirlooms shared across generations.
Why Milestone Sessions Matter
The first year of a baby's life moves incredibly fast. One moment they are tiny newborns and before you know it they are sitting, crawling, and exploring the world around them.
Milestone sessions are a wonderful way to document those changes.
Many families choose to photograph:
-
Newborn
-
6 months (sitting milestone)
-
9–12 months
Each stage captures a different part of your baby's personality and development.
For twins especially, milestone sessions are a beautiful way to document both their individual personalities and the bond they share.
